Ottoman Viper

Ottoman Viper, Anaxos, 21 Oct 09 © John & Anne Humphreys

This young viper (c.35cm in length - adults usually up to 90cm but records up to 1.5m) was found by semi-resident birders John and Anne in their Anaxos garden. Few birders get to enjoy this scarce snake - the most venomous species on the island (and Europe!) so care should be taken if you do encounter one.

And this critter was also found in their garden last month.
